Curtis Gayle Robbins, 75, of Coryell County, Texas, passed away at his home on Friday, May 11, 2012. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Chambers officiating. Following the Chapel Service, family graveside services will be held at the Cherokee Hanna Cemetery with Doug Suggs, minister of the Cherokee Church of Christ, officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Gatesville Funeral Home.
was born in Kerrville, Texas, to the late Richard Aaron and Iva Mildred
Conley Robbins. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. Following
an honorable discharge he returned to Abilene and attended Abilene
Christian College. He opened his own grocery business, the Red Robin,
in Abilene. Later in life he managed several exotic game ranches and
retired from Tarleton State University where he worked as a purchasing
agent. He met and married Dannette Huckabee at Presbyterian Mo-Ranch
Assembly in 1991. He loved square dancing and he and Dannette served as
officers in the Lubbock Square and Round Dance Federation.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Eugene; and a sister, Lou Nora.
is survived by his wife, Dannette; daughters, Melinda LeMoine and
husband, André, Katrina Burgess, and Kimberly Beth Moye and husband,
Forrest; sons, Richard Curtis Robbins and Michael Pearson; six
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Betty Fowler and her
husband, Joe; a niece, Robin and her husband, John; and numerous family
members and friends.
He died on the anniversary of the tornado that hit Waco in 1953; he and a friend, Coy Leon, went to help with the clean up efforts.
graduated from Abilene Christian High School. As a young man he was
often called upon to lead singing at church and loved gospel music, as
did our Daddy. They both enjoyed playing 42. He loved nature,
wildflowers, and his pets.
Most of all, he loved family and saved
the bricks that made the sidewalk to our Great Aunt and Uncle Will
Conley's house on Hwy 16 in Cherokee.
